Fall Planting or Spring?
The "correct" answer is to plant by the stars.
If the ground is thawed
Dry enough to dig but not baked brick hard
The trees are dormant....or nearly so
You have the time
You are physically able
Then all the stars are aligned and it is a fine time to plant trees.
One additional consideration when fall planting is to armor the trees against rabbits and other opportunistic herbivors.
The trash dumpster is a convenient height for working on trees with minimum stress on one's back. |
Extra style points are awarded if the image of the school superintendent is left exposed
Dr DeFrance is a really nice guy. But I hope the rabbits find him intimidating. |
